haiku- nurture

How do we practice without preaching? In the sleepless and tireless world of nature, love and care are practised in gracious silence. Nature schools us in the most unique way!

fall haiku

Woods colored in fall gold and Halloween covered in pumpkin gold. October weaved gold in the air. Back home we had Diwali. Homes lit up in lamps and bazaars smiled decked in marigold strings.

Life moves on, a bit downside, a bit upside. Smile as much when life gives us a chance. Make gold while the Sun shines!

#thinking thursday

Life prompts us to pause and think more often than we notice. We must have the mindfulness to catch the clue. So caught up in racing ahead, so caught up in climbing up, we haven’t paid attention to the bruises that needed timely healing. We haven’t realized how many times we shattered to pieces and life was kind. It gave us time to gather ourselves.

Life’s truth unfolds slowly. A small buzz inside tells us it’s time to sit back and reflect. The buzz snowballs into an urgent need until we can no more ignore. Only when we take a step back we realize we have perhaps been overdoing things and running far beyond we can.

We all have a perception of perfection. That which is always at arm’s length. A little more effort, a little more time and we have it sorted, is what keeps us on our toes. We don’t realize that we have actually arrived at our expectation but we have continued to seek. That happens because we have further pushed our idea of perfection. We have set new challenges, new MUST HAVEs, and the marathon continues. But how far can one run! There comes a time when the body stops co operating with our crazy mind. The gaps begin to show, between what we had set out to do and what we have actually accomplished.

Far beyond our prime time when most things can’t be changed, there’s a need to accept and respect the distance we have come. Standing in the midst of a desert and craving for a handful of sand, sitting by the ocean and craving for water, is a sense that sets in midway. We sway wildly between β€˜There’s everything’ and β€˜There’s nothing’. And there’s still the elusive perfection taunting us from the tip of some mountain. Be sure, nobody has climbed that to claim how life seems from the top. If someone thinks so they are under the spell of an illusion. Despite the pretence people put on to show off β€˜perfect’ lives they know where their shoes bite. Thanks to social media where each one is trying hard to project the β€˜perfection’ in their lives to the best of their talents. It needs a deep sense of sanity to look beyond what meets the eye. Β

we must remind ourselves often-

The ingredients of a happy and fulfilling and contented life vary from person to person. Insulate yourself from people who claim to have β€˜perfect’ lives. Know that behind the β€˜perfect’ picture many flaws HAVE been hidden. Therefore there’s desperation to display, in the first place! More the perfection, more the flaws. Remember to never get carried away by another’s idea of happiness. You set the rules, you set the pace, you define happiness and you define success. Look back once in a while and cherish your journey. You have been part of the struggles of your loved ones. You have been part of their lives in their moments of joy. You have shared their smiles and tears. You couldn’t be more blessed than this.

Being blessed is not about being rich, successful or being in a constant state of illusion of having an β€˜ideal’ job/husband/wife/children/family. Being blessed is about getting an opportunity to touch the lives of our loved ones. Being blessed is about gathering the blessings of our loved ones. By loved ones I don’t mean a selfish little world of our own family. β€˜Loved ones’ includes all humanity. Being blessed is about BEING THERE for everyone as much as humanly possible.

I am not sure if I took off on a tangent. One of those days when you feel the need to share! Something everyone knows but saying it becomes a compulsion.

born to rule the sky

not all clouds go down raining

There’s still hope! It’s been rather cruel rainy season this year around. It’s a relief to think of it as a silver lining if some clouds wouldn’t rain.

Clouds could be storytellers too. Reading the snowy puffs as they enact a fairytale in the sky.

tanka for tuesday

I shall whisper to the clouds

if you tell me a story

I have attempted my first tanka ever. Long verse has always been my comfort zone. But haiku/tanka and other short forms have been my guilty pleasure. I have adhered to the 5-7-5-7-7 format and tried to pen something that reads both back and forth. I hope I have maintained the sanctity of the form.

The city that appears as pious as a monk in the morning mist transforms into a fairy of the lamps. The wicks are raised and lit, and it’s storytelling time. Our stories do have the potential to touch the sky.

Happy tanka tuesday!

may the stars litter

life on the threshold

When we lose someone very dear, to death, our minds linger around the futility of it all. The struggle to make it big, the continuous battles with self and with the world, everything comes to a grinding halt. Loved ones who were part of the struggle are left with a vacuum to deal with. It’s a different truth that life throws challenges at us as if we were dart boards, and sooner than later the vacuum fills up. While our loved ones travel up there and become stars, we spread our arms for the stardust. That’s how the dear souls bless us.

Time heals everything. But it’s also true that some wounds leave scars. That nobody has life custom made helps the healing process. Life moves on and it ought to.

River twin- Second book of poems

Looking forward to happy and inspiring times for poetry beginning 2020. My second book is due to be out soon. Looking forward to share more details.

My first book of poems, A maiden of 29, was published by Writers Workshop India. Based out of Kolkata it’s an honour my poetry found home with them. This news dates back to 2013 Dec. Six years later I feel very happy to share about my second book of poems ‘River twin’ which is forthcoming shortly. BecomeShakespeare.com ( https://www.becomeshakespeare.com/ ) is bringing out my book via their Wordit Art Fund. I am honoured to be associated with them.

Since three years I was looking out for a publisher. Having sent out my manuscript to several places and got mixed responses regarding the amount of money I had to invest, I had been skeptical if I would find a home for my second book. But the long wait has ended in a happy twist.

I have shared a link of the said publisher in case someone, like me, has also been sailing in the same boat.

About our River twin- she will be a happy blend of long and short poetry. The book will also include my poems published in literary journals along with unpublished and new poetry.

My first book of poems could be ordered here. https://www.writersworkshopindia.com/tag/daya-bhat/

You can also find a review of my book here.

Thanks for sharing my joy everyone and keep writing.

October splashes

Looks like haikus have me hooked for a while, so much so that I had to create a pond for them. Until the splashes last let me soak my fingers.

Known to be a joyous bird often seen working hard in teams. The simple sparrow has its own moments of reflection and recreation. Seems like it’s having a ‘me’ time trying to read the fortune the day’s weather may bring.

How nature pairs up the wavering and the unwavering! Each not intimidated by the other’s conflicting personality. Instead there’s a graceful acceptance and peaceful co existence.
